Living and working in Macau: housing, commuting and daily planning
Housing, commute and recurring cost planning make the biggest difference to a new worker's first months in Macau. Confirm the employer's accommodation and shift arrangement before you travel.
Housing choices
Employer accommodation can reduce cost and simplify onboarding. If you arrange your own housing or commute from Zhuhai, confirm the rent, travel time, shift pattern and border-crossing plan first.
Plan the commute
Border crossings can be busy at peak hours. Build a realistic route and time buffer around your actual work shift, particularly for early, late or rotating shifts.
Prepare daily essentials
Ask how salary payments, mobile service, medical arrangements, meals and transport work for your role. Keep your work documents, contract and payslips secure.
Respect employment limits
The worker card is linked to the authorised employer and position. Do not take unauthorised additional work, and arrange renewals before documents expire.
